That from childhood . . .

. . . you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus (2 Timothy 3:15, HCSB)

From childhood, really? I once was challenged by an adult church member who stated that he didn't think a baby could learn anything. He stated that all they knew to do was "cry when they were hungry or when they needed their diaper changed." So I asked him, "When does a baby become a human?" Paul gives us the answer.

From childhood . . .
This can be interpreted as "from infancy" or "even while you were in your mother's womb." If you take care of babies in Sunday School, you need to remember that you can teach them! They will learn! Sing and talk to them about God while playing with them, changing their diaper, or rocking them. If you wonder if they are learning just read, Jeremiah 1:5 and Luke 1:41. Even in the womb God was forming, shaping, and preparing. Then He asked you to join Him in teaching the newborn to continue learning! You ARE teaching!

. . . You have known the sacred Scriptures.
We need to make sure we are teaching them the right things. Just entertaining them is not enough. It is the Scriptures that we teach. We must stay focused on teaching the Scriptures to all ages. It is those Scriptures that are able to . . .

. . . give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
Salvation doesn't come from just knowing the holy Scriptures. As important as the Scriptures are, it is not enough to just know the holy Scriptures unless, what we know points us to salvation which comes only from faith in Christ Jesus. It is this change that Timothy had experienced. It was prepared and precipitated by those he knew and what he learned from Holy Scriptures.

As a teacher, your learners have to know you, they have to know the Scriptures, but they absolutely have to know the Savior! Keep investing in the youngest of the youngest and the oldest of the oldest so everyone has opportunity to receive Christ.
