God, the rock of my salvation, is exalted.
We exalt many things today in our world, only to be
frequently disappointed . We exalt a sports star, a weight loss program, a
celebrity, a pastor, a blogger, a process, ideology, or even ourselves. It seems we spend an exorbitant amount of time striving to
prove ourselves as people who should be admired, respected, and affirmed. We love
to know that we are the heroes in our jobs, our homes, and even in our churches. We are striving to exalt ourselves as people of worth.
2 Samuel 22:47 emphasizes exalting the only one worthy of
exaltation, God Himself. AW Tozer created a list in a devotional I recently read in Tozer on Leadership. I have used his list to create the list below so that we can evaluate whether God is exalted in all aspects of our lives.
- Possessions. Nothing of earth's treasures shall seem dear to me if only You are glorified in my life.
- Friendships. I am determined that You shall be above all, though I must stand deserted and alone in the midst of the earth.
- Comforts. Though it means the loss of bodily comforts and the carrying of heavy crosses, I shall keep my vow made this day before you.
- Reputation. Make me ambitious to please You even if, as a result, I must sink into obscurity and my name be forgotten as a dream.
