Christmas Devotions Day 10 - Preparation and a Baby

Twelve Days Before Christmas Devotions

Then the kingdom of heaven shall be
likened to ten virgins who took their lamps
and went out to meet the bridegroom.
(Matthew 25:1)

10 days before Christmas let us explore the concept of preparation as illustrated by Jesus with the parable of the 10 virgins.

Jesus was in the middle of a teaching moment with the Apostles when He presented the story of the ten virgins who were waiting for the bridegroom. Five were foolish because they did not prepare properly. They only brought what they thought was necessary. Five brought extra provisions in case the wedding was delayed. The five who were adequately prepared were allowed into the wedding. The five who were not prepared were cast aside.

Knowing how to adequately prepare is extremely important in everything we do. To properly cook, we need to gather the recipes, ingredients, and utensils. To create something from wood we must develop or secure plans, gather the wood and tools, and work out a step-by-step plan. To play a sport we must have the correct equipment, know the rules, develop our skills, and learn the plays. Being properly prepared in life will allow us to achieve our goals and have better relationships with other people.

There is one thing we must keep in mind. None of us would know about preparation if a baby had not been born. A baby changes everything.
