Christmas Devotions Day 8 - Spiritual Insight and a Baby

Twelve Days Before Christmas Devotions

Now it came to pass, about eight days after these sayings, that He took Peter, John, and James and went up on the mountain to pray.  As He prayed, the appearance of His face was altered, and His robe became white and glistening. And behold, two men talked with Him, who were Moses and Elijah, who appeared in glory and spoke of His death which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. But Peter and those with him were heavy with sleep; and when they were fully awake, they saw His glory and the two men who stood with Him.
(Luke 9:28-32)

8 days before Christmas let us explore the concept of spiritual insight.

Peter, John, and James not only witnessed a great event, but also gained some insight as to who Jesus was and Jesus’ relationship to God the Father. This spiritual insight was more subtle than overt. There are some who say these changes were due to the excitement of the event. After all, they wanted to stay on that mountaintop and build three churches. However, the excitement wore off at some point in time. It might have been the teachings of Jesus and the activity of this event that shed light on why and how Jesus did things.

There is one thing we must keep in mind. None of us would know how to look for spiritual insight if a baby had not been born. A baby changes everything.
