Explore the Bible: What is True Love? - May 25

"They don’t make them this way today; they make them so they won’t last.” This was what I heard a few years ago from the delivery man regarding our 25-plus-year-old washing machine as he was replacing it with our new one. Our Explore the Bible study this week focuses on love that lasts, as opposed to love that does not last. You may have noticed that I changed the title to better reflect the focus of our final study from Song of Songs. We will be looking at the joy that is evident when two people love each other as we encourage adults to hold on to the sanctity that should encompass the marriage relationship.

We live in a disposable age. We use paper plates, plastic cups, and paper napkins. Our electronics are outdated in just a few short years. Sadly, our world has come to view marriage as something that is disposable as well.

The result of this view is the lack of holiness related to the marriage between a one man and one woman. Selfishness replaces selfless giving of oneself to a spouse. Families' scars run deep, affecting children and loved ones on both sides. The downgrading of marriage to disposable status will eventually become the very issue that will lead to social and moral decay in our society.

The following video provides a wonderful example of what true love is all about.

I hope and pray that we who are married will all come to the end of our days here on earth with true love still being exhibited toward our spouses and our Savior!

As you teach, be sensitive to single adults, or couples who may be struggling in their marriages, or individuals who have experienced divorce.
